3 recalls across 3 model years
The AMC Gremlin has 3 recalls covering 1975 through 1978, with the most serious being a wiring harness defect on 1978 four-cylinder, four-speed manual transmission models where the harness rubs against the clutch linkage during normal driving and can short out, starting an electrical fire.
On 1977 four-cylinder models, the accelerator cable uses a plastic sleeve that is too short, which can jam when the pedal is pressed fully to the floor and hold the throttle wide open even after the driver lifts off the gas. Going back to 1975, certain vehicles were built with front suspension strut nuts that do not meet strength specifications, which can compromise the integrity of the front suspension assembly.
