3 recalls across 2 model years
The AMC Matador has 3 recalls covering the 1975 and 1976 model years, the most serious being a carburetor fuel inlet plug on certain 1975 models with 360-4V or 401-4V V8 engines that can dislodge and discharge gasoline, creating a fire risk; the same carburetor can also cause the throttle to stick open.
On 1976 models equipped with V8 engines and either air conditioning or a heavy-duty cooling system, the flexible engine cooling fan can develop fatigue from repeated loading during normal operation, causing a blade to break free from the assembly and become a hazard under the hood. There is also a concern on 1976 models where front suspension strut nuts of substandard quality were used, which can compromise the strut's structural holding ability and affect how the front suspension behaves while driving.
