4 recalls across 3 model years
The AMC Pacer has 4 recalls covering 1975 through 1978 model years, the most serious being a front suspension defect on 1978 models where the lower control arm ball joints can wear prematurely, lose their pull-out strength, and allow a front wheel to separate from the vehicle while driving.
The 1975 model year has two recalls. A fuel hose running from the fuel line to the fuel pump can rub against the front engine and suspension crossmember, wear through, and leak fuel near hot engine components. There is also a jack assembly quality issue on 1975 models, where the supplied jack may be too weak to safely support the vehicle during a tire change. On 1976 models, the rear seat back hinge latch can fail, allowing the seatback to fold forward unexpectedly and leaving rear passengers without proper support in a sudden stop or crash.
