3 recalls across 6 model years
The Audi A3 Sportback e-tron has 3 recalls covering the 2016–2018 model years, the most serious being a 2016 front passenger airbag inflator that can explode during deployment and send metal fragments into the cabin, posing a risk of serious injury or death.
The remaining two recalls both involve the passenger seat occupant detection system on 2016–2018 models. In one case, the system can malfunction and shut off the passenger airbag even when someone is sitting in the seat. In the other, a faulty electrical contact causes the system to falsely detect an error and deactivate the airbag for the same reason. Both conditions leave the front passenger without airbag protection in a crash.
