The 1972 model year also has a recall for the fuel tank itself corroding prematurely and leaking. On 1973 models equipped with automatic transmissions, the throttle cable can bind and fray at the trunnion pin, eventually failing and causing the throttle to snap shut, dropping the engine to idle and leaving the vehicle unable to accelerate in traffic. On 1974 models, the front flexible brake hoses can deteriorate over time, which can reduce braking effectiveness.
