The 1996 model year has a brake system concern where mineral oil in certain production batches can affect the distribution valves that control the integrated hydraulic brake and load-leveling system, causing the brake pedal feel to behave inconsistently, particularly after the vehicle has sat unused for an extended period. On 1986 models, the brake light micro-switch can fail either by keeping the brake lights on continuously or by preventing them from lighting at all when the pedal is pressed, leaving drivers behind without a reliable signal that the vehicle is stopping.
