4 recalls across 3 model years
The BMW 650I has 4 recalls covering 2012 through 2017, with the most serious being a Takata airbag inflator defect on 2015 models where the driver's frontal airbag can explode and send metal fragments into the cabin, raising the risk of serious injury or death.
The 2017 model year has a separate airbag concern: the seat-mounted side airbag's inflator initiator can fail to ignite, leaving that bag undeployed in a crash. On 2012 models, two recalls apply. The turbocharger circuit board can overheat and start a fire. There is also a fuel pump wiring connector that can loosen, melt, and cause a fuel leak, or cause the fuel pump to stop working entirely and stall the engine.
