4 recalls across 3 model years
The BMW 650I has 4 recalls covering 2012 through 2017, with the most serious being a 2015 driver's side airbag inflator that can rupture and send metal fragments into the cabin, raising the risk of serious injury or death.
The 2017 model year has a separate airbag concern: the initiator in the seat-mounted side airbag can fail to fire, leaving that airbag completely non-functional in a crash. Going back to 2012, two recalls affect that model year. A turbocharger circuit board can overheat and start a fire in the engine compartment. Separately, wiring at the fuel pump connector can loosen, melt the connector, and either leak fuel near the engine or cause the fuel pump to stop working entirely, which can stall the engine without warning.
