3 recalls across 6 model years
The BMW 745i has 3 recalls covering 2002 through 2008, with the most serious affecting 2005–2008 models equipped with both the Comfort Access and Soft Close Automatic options, where doors can appear fully latched but remain incompletely closed and swing open while driving.
The 2003 model year has a software error that causes the two Valvetronic motor banks controlling engine valve timing to fall out of sync, which can stall the engine and prevent a restart. On 2002 models, the fuel pump runs at a speed that gradually wears its internal components, eventually delivering insufficient fuel when the tank drops to one-third full or below, which can also stall the engine and leave the driver unable to restart until more fuel is added.
