Summary
The BMW F650CS has 7 recalls, all affecting the 2002 model year, with the most serious being loose rear brake caliper mounting screws that can allow the caliper to separate from its mount, rupture the brake line, and cause sudden loss of rear braking or rear wheel lockup.
All recalls cover the 2002 model year only. On the drivetrain side, the rear drive belt wheel can crack and eventually fail, causing the drive belt to derail and leaving the rear wheel without power. Prior repair attempts on this issue did not fully resolve it, as replacement belt wheels installed under an earlier campaign can also crack. There is also a hex nut securing the front drive belt wheel to the gearbox output shaft that was under-torqued during assembly and can loosen while riding, which may also affect drive. On the fuel system, the plastic fuel pump flange can become brittle if it contacts acid or acidic cleaning products, eventually cracking and allowing fuel to leak from the tank.
