3 recalls across 3 model years
The BMW i5 eDrive40 has 3 recalls covering 2024-2026 model years, with the most serious being a steering spindle defect on 2024-2025 vehicles where the spindle can fracture, causing a sudden increase in steering effort and raising the risk of a crash.
The 2024-2026 model years are also subject to a wiring harness recall tied to the air conditioning system. The harness runs near the cabin air filter, and the wiring can be damaged during a filter replacement. A damaged harness can short-circuit and start a fire. On 2024 models specifically, a separate issue affects the electronic brake booster control module, which can fail and reduce power-assisted braking, extending stopping distances. That same failure can also disable the anti-lock brakes and stability control, removing the systems that help the driver maintain control during hard braking or slippery conditions.
