3 recalls across 10 model years
The BMW R 1200 RT has 3 recalls spanning the 2005–2014 production run, with the most serious being a rear shock absorber defect on 2014 models where the internal piston rod can break without warning, causing the rear suspension to collapse and the motorcycle to become unstable.
The 2011–2014 model years have a fuel pump that can crack during operation and leak fuel, which can ignite and cause a fire. Going back further, 2005–2010 models have a rear wheel mounting flange that can crack, allowing the wheel mounting bolts to loosen and the rear wheel to detach while riding.
