3 recalls across 10 model years
The BMW R 1200 RT has 3 recalls spanning 2005 through 2014, with the most serious recent issue being a rear shock absorber piston rod on 2014 models equipped with Dynamic Electronic Suspension Adjustment that can break without warning, causing sudden loss of stability and raising the risk of a crash.
On 2011-2014 models, the fuel pump can crack during operation and leak fuel, which can ignite and start a fire. Going back further, 2005-2010 models have a rear wheel mounting flange that can crack, allowing the mounting bolts to loosen and the rear wheel to detach from the motorcycle while riding.
