BMW R 18 Recalls

The BMW R 18 has 3 recalls covering 2020 through 2024 model years, with the most serious being a fire risk on 2021-2024 motorcycles where the seal on the reverse gear control unit can deteriorate, allow moisture inside, and cause the unit to overheat and potentially ignite. The 2020 model year has a related issue where the same reverse gear control unit may not have been sealed properly from the factory, allowing water to enter, corrode the unit, and cause a short circuit that can also lead to a fire. On 2022 models only, a mounting point inside the headlamp housing can crack and break, causing one or both low-beam reflectors to shift out of position. A misaimed low beam reduces how far the rider can see ahead at night and can shine directly into oncoming traffic, raising the risk of a collision.
