Summary
The BMW R NINE T has 6 recalls spanning 2014 through 2020, with the most serious being a frame bolt issue on 2014-2017 models where the right-side swingarm pivot pin can loosen and destabilize the motorcycle, raising the risk of a crash.
The pivot pin attaches the rear swingarm to the frame, and when that connection works loose, the rear wheel can shift unpredictably under load. This issue appears across 2014-2017 production, with the 2014 model year subject to the same underlying defect.
On the 2020 model year, the brake light flashes during hard braking rather than staying on continuously, which can confuse drivers behind and reduce the warning they receive before a stop. The 2018 model year has a separate brake-related concern: certain optional brake fluid reservoir covers may be missing required maintenance information, which could lead to the wrong fluid being used and a resulting loss of braking effectiveness. Going back to early production, 2014-2015 models have rear turn signals whose lens placement can partially block their visibility to following drivers, reducing the signal's effectiveness in traffic.
