2 recalls across 2 model years
The BMW R1100RS has 2 recalls covering the 1993 and 1994 model years, with the most serious affecting 1993 ABS-equipped motorcycles where a short-circuiting positive battery connector can send electrical current through the front brake lines, raising brake line temperature and reducing front braking performance, and in extreme cases melting through a low or empty fuel tank.
The 1994 model year has a separate structural recall covering two issues. The adjustable handlebars can develop cracks at the handlebar stub that may progress to a complete break, and the nut securing the ball joint to the Telelever suspension arm can loosen over time. Either condition compromises steering control and rider safety.
