4 recalls across 13 model years
The BMW R1200 GS has 4 recalls spanning 2005 through 2018, with the most serious being a front fork tube defect on 2014-2017 models where the fork tube can separate from the upper triple clamp, destabilizing the motorcycle and raising the risk of a crash.
The 2013 model year has a related front suspension issue where a locking bolt on the fork tube may not have been tightened to the correct torque, allowing the fork to loosen and reducing the rider's ability to steer and control the motorcycle. On 2014-2018 models equipped with optional aluminum luggage cases, the rear reflectors can be partially blocked, reducing visibility to other drivers at night. Going back to 2005-2011 production, certain motorcycles that received a prior fuel pump repair under an earlier recall may still have a fuel leak risk if the pump itself was not subsequently replaced, creating a fire hazard near ignition sources.
