The BMW R1250 GS has 1 recall affecting the 2019 model year, where a sudden mismatch in speed between the engine and rear wheel can crack or break the gearbox input shaft, causing the rear wheel to lock up without warning and potentially throwing the rider into a crash. This condition is most likely to occur off-road, when a spinning rear wheel suddenly grips or decelerates sharply, such as when landing after a jump. If the shaft breaks under those conditions, the rear wheel stops abruptly while the motorcycle is still in motion, leaving the rider with no time to react.
