3 recalls across 4 model years
The BMW S 1000 XR has 3 recalls covering 2020 through 2023 model years, with the most serious affecting 2022-2023 models where clutch cover bolts can work loose and allow oil to leak onto hot engine components or the rear tire, raising the risk of fire or a crash.
The 2020-2023 model years are also subject to a software recall where a dealership-performed update can silently deactivate the front wheel lift-off assistant, a stability feature that helps prevent the front wheel from rising unexpectedly under hard acceleration. Without knowing the feature is off, a rider may encounter handling behavior they are not prepared for. On the braking side, 2020 models have front brake calipers that can seep fluid while parked, gradually lowering the fluid level in the reservoir until brake performance is reduced.
