3 recalls across 2 model years
The BMW S1000RR has 3 recalls covering 2012 and 2020 model years, with the most serious being a 2020 oil cooler hose attachment defect where a loose hose can leak oil onto the rear tire or near the exhaust, reducing traction and creating a fire risk.
The 2012 model year has two separate issues. On the engine side, connecting rod bolts can loosen and separate, causing the engine to seize and the rear wheel to lock up without warning, which can also send oil in front of the rear tire and destabilize the motorcycle mid-ride. There is also a side stand installation defect on 2012 models where the attachment bolts can work loose and let the motorcycle topple while parked on the stand.
