3 recalls across 3 model years
The BMW S1000XR has 3 recalls covering the 2016–2020 model years, with the most serious being a front brake caliper fluid leak on 2019 models where fluid can slowly drain from the reservoir, reducing front braking power and extending stopping distances. The leak can also deposit fluid on the front tire, which reduces grip further. On 2020 models, a software update reset the "Dynamic Pro" riding mode to factory defaults, silently deactivating the front wheel lift-off assistant. A rider unaware of the reset can experience unexpected handling changes. Going back to 2016, a rear suspension bolt connecting the deflection lever to either the link strut or the swingarm may not have been torqued to specification, allowing it to loosen over time and compromise handling stability.
