BMW X2 Recalls

The BMW X2 has 9 recalls spanning 2018 through 2026, with the most serious recent issue affecting 2024–2025 models where the integrated brake system can malfunction, reducing or eliminating power brake assist and disabling anti-lock brakes and stability control, all of which extend stopping distances and reduce the driver's ability to maintain control.

A related brake system issue on 2024 models can similarly cause a loss of brake power assist and rear brake function, along with anti-lock brake and stability control failures that compromise handling. These two brake-related recalls together cover the 2024–2025 model years.

The newest seatbelt concerns affect 2025–2026 models. On 2025–2026 vehicles, damaged front seatbelt retractors may not hold an occupant in place during a crash. On 2026 models specifically, the rear seatbelt retractors have a similar issue where a damaged housing pin prevents the belt from locking, leaving rear passengers less protected in a collision.

Going back to 2021, certain vehicles have front seatbelt retractors that can fail to function as intended in a crash, raising the risk of occupant injury. The 2020 model year has a curtain airbag issue where the side curtain airbags may not deploy correctly in a rollover, reducing head protection for occupants.

On 2019 models, the steering gear tie rod may have been assembled incorrectly, leading to accelerated wear at the tie rod end and eventual breakage, which causes a sudden loss of steering. The 2018 model year has two separate issues: a crankshaft sensor with incorrect firmware that can cause the engine to stall unexpectedly, and a software error that can prevent the instrument cluster from illuminating at startup, disabling warning lights and telltales.
