BMW X2 Recalls

The BMW X2 has 10 recalls spanning 2018 through 2026, with the most serious being a brake system defect on 2024–2025 models where the integrated brake system can malfunction, reducing power brake assist and disabling anti-lock brakes and stability control, lengthening stopping distances and reducing the driver's ability to maintain control.

The 2024–2025 brake issue is the most consequential cluster in this vehicle's recall history, with multiple filings covering the same underlying integrated brake system failure. The 2025 model year is also subject to a separate but related stability control concern where loss of power brake assist and malfunctioning anti-lock brakes and stability control can extend stopping distances and cause loss of handling. On the safety restraint side, 2025–2026 models have two seat belt retractor recalls: on 2025–2026 vehicles, both front seat belt retractors may have been damaged during production and can fail to restrain an occupant in a crash, and on 2026 models specifically, the rear seat belt retractors may have a damaged housing pin that prevents the belt from locking during a crash.

Going back to 2021, the seat belt retractor in certain X2 models may fail to function properly during a crash, again reducing occupant restraint. The 2020 X2 has a curtain airbag recall where the side curtain airbags may not deploy correctly in a rollover, reducing occupant protection. On the steering side, 2019 X2 xDrive28i vehicles have a tie rod that may have been incorrectly assembled, leading to accelerated wear and eventual breakage that causes loss of steering control.

The 2018 model year carries two issues: a crankshaft sensor with incorrect firmware that can cause the engine to stall without warning, and a software error that can prevent the instrument cluster from powering on at startup, blinding the driver to warning lights and telltales.
