8 recalls across 2 model years
The BMW X6 ActiveHybrid SAC has 8 recalls covering the 2010–2011 model years, with the most serious being Takata airbag inflator defects affecting both the driver and passenger frontal airbags, where the inflator can rupture and send metal fragments into the cabin, causing serious injury or death.
The airbag issue spans all 2010–2011 vehicles, with the passenger-side recall specifically calling out vehicles originally sold or registered in high-humidity states including Alabama, California, Florida, Hawaii, and others, where moisture exposure accelerates the risk of inflator rupture. Prior repair attempts did not fully resolve the issue, which is why multiple rounds of recalls address the same underlying defect.
On the fuel system side, 2010–2011 models have a fuel pump wiring connector that can loosen, melt, and cause a fuel leak near the pump. The same wiring fault can also cut power to the fuel pump entirely, stalling the engine while driving.
The 2011 model year has two related driveshaft recalls: water and debris can work into the front driveshaft's universal joint, wearing it down until it fails. When the joint fails, the front wheels lose drive power, reducing traction and the driver's ability to control the vehicle.
There is also a turbocharger-related recall on 2010–2011 models where a circuit board within the turbocharger system can overheat and increase the risk of an engine fire.
