3 recalls across 3 model years
The Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham has 3 recalls spanning the 1976-1986 production run, the most serious on 1986 models with 5-litre engines where an unsecured wiring harness under the instrument panel can catch on the accelerator lever and prevent the throttle from closing when the driver releases the pedal.
The 1981 model year, limited to limousine configurations, has a front lower control arm ball joint where the attaching nut may not have been tightened to spec. If the nut backs off, the joint can separate, resulting in sudden loss of steering control. On 1976 models equipped with power brakes, gasoline vapor can condense inside the brake booster in freezing temperatures and deteriorate the rubber diaphragm. If the diaphragm ruptures during braking, power-assisted braking is lost without warning, requiring significantly more pedal force to slow the vehicle.
