5 recalls across 1 model year
The Cadillac XLR has 5 recalls, all affecting the 2004 model year, with the most serious being rear brake hydraulic lines that can contact the exhaust manifold or exhaust pipe and heat to the point where braking ability is compromised. A second suspension recall covers lower control arm ball stud washers made from the wrong steel that can fracture and fall away, reducing the clamping force that keeps the suspension joint secure and potentially affecting steering and handling stability. On the throttle side, if one of the two accelerator pedal return springs fails in extreme cold (below about negative 22 degrees Fahrenheit), the engine may not drop back to idle within the required time, meaning the driver may need to press the brake pedal harder and travel farther to stop. There is also a lighting issue where the bulb shared by the daytime running lights, turn signals, and parking lamps can burn out early due to a loose socket or a poor seal, leaving the vehicle without turn signal and running light function; a faster-than-normal instrument cluster arrow flash is the driver's cue that the bulb has failed.
