The 2017 Can-Am Spyder RT has 3 recalls, the most serious involving two drivetrain failures that can cut power while riding: a worn front sprocket or a broken engine output shaft, either of which can leave the vehicle unable to accelerate.

Both drivetrain issues result in a sudden loss of drive power, which raises the risk of a crash, particularly at speed or in traffic. The front sprocket can wear prematurely and slip or shed drive force to the rear wheel, while the engine output shaft can fatigue and snap entirely, cutting power more abruptly. The third recall involves the headlight assembly on the RT: a manufacturing error can cause the low beam to aim too high, directing light into the eyes of oncoming drivers rather than illuminating the road ahead, which raises crash risk for both the rider and other road users.
