4 recalls across 4 model years
The Chevrolet 5500XD has 4 recalls covering 2019 through 2022 model years, with the most serious being a suspension and steering joint nut defect on 2021-2022 vehicles where the nuts can break, causing steering instability and raising the risk of a crash.
The 2019-2020 model years have two separate structural fastener concerns. On the rear outer wheels, lug nuts may not have been properly tightened at the factory and can loosen over time, allowing a rear wheel to separate from the vehicle while driving. The 2020 model year also has a rear leaf spring U-bolt nut that can loosen and let the rear axle shift out of alignment, which can cause the driveshaft to separate and cut power to the rear wheels, stalling the vehicle unexpectedly.
Rounding out the 2020 model year, certain vehicles equipped with a dual-mode belt locking mechanism have front seatbelt webbing that may not properly restrain an occupant in a crash, raising the risk of injury.
