CHEVROLET VOLT Recalls

The Chevrolet Volt has 3 recalls covering 2011 through 2013 model years, with the most serious being a brake pressure issue on certain 2012 vehicles where the anti-lock brakes, stability control, and traction control systems can fail to release front brake pressure, locking up the wheels and extending stopping distances while reducing steering control. On 2013 models, a software update to the hybrid powertrain control module can disable the battery cell balancing function, causing voltage to drop low enough that the car loses drive power while in motion. Across all three model years (2011 through 2013), if the driver exits without fully shutting off the electrical system, the high-voltage battery can drain to a point where the gasoline engine starts automatically to recharge it. If that engine runs in an enclosed space such as a garage, carbon monoxide can build up to dangerous levels.
