The Dodge Aries has 3 recalls spanning 1981 and 1985, the most serious affecting 1981 models with 2.6-litre engines, where the throttle return spring can jam and prevent the throttle from snapping back to idle, leaving the engine at elevated speed and making the vehicle difficult to slow or stop. A separate 1981 recall covers vehicles assembled with brake fluid that contained excess water. Water-contaminated brake fluid lowers the fluid's boiling point and can cause brake fade or a soft pedal under repeated or hard use. The 1985 model year has a compliance recall related to exhaust emissions standards, with no reported mechanical consequence to the driver.
