2012 Dodge Challenger

The 2012 Dodge Challenger has 4 recalls, the most serious being a passenger-side frontal airbag inflator that can explode during deployment, sending metal fragments into the cabin and raising the risk of serious injury or death.

Three of the four recalls involve this airbag inflator problem. One filing specifically covers vehicles sold or registered in high-humidity states and territories including Florida, Texas, Hawaii, and several others, where moisture exposure worsens the risk. A separate filing covers a broader range of model years and describes the same failure mode: excessive internal pressure causes the inflator to rupture violently rather than inflate the airbag as intended. Prior repair attempts did not fully resolve the issue for all affected vehicles, which is why multiple campaigns exist for what is fundamentally the same defect. The alternator is the subject of the remaining recall, affecting vehicles equipped with a 5.7L or 3.6L engine and a 160, 180, or 220 amp alternator paired with electro-hydraulic power steering. That alternator can fail without warning, cutting power to the steering system and stalling the engine while the car is in motion. In some cases the alternator can also short circuit and start a fire under the hood.
