4 recalls across 3 model years
The Dodge Spirit has 4 recalls covering the 1990–1994 model years, with the most serious being a 1991 airbag defect where loose front impact sensors can prevent the airbags from deploying in a frontal collision, leaving occupants without that protection in a crash.
The 1994 model year has a separate safety concern: the front seat belt anchor buckle lock bars do not meet federal load strength requirements, meaning the belt can pull free in a crash and leave the occupant unrestrained. On the mechanical side, 1991 models also have front disc brake caliper guide pin bolts that may not have been tightened properly, allowing them to loosen over time and reduce braking effectiveness. Going back to the earliest production, 1990 models sold in certain Canadian provinces can experience corrosion failure of the daytime running light module, causing the lighting system to fall out of compliance.
