FERRARI 550 MARANELLO Recalls

The Ferrari 550 Maranello has 7 recalls covering the 1997–2001 production run, with the most serious being a transmission oil line defect on 2001 models where the lines can disconnect from their fittings, starve the transmission of lubrication, and cause it to seize while the vehicle is moving. The 2001 model year also has a handbrake ratchet mechanism with insufficiently hardened teeth that can wear and leave the parking brake unable to hold the vehicle. On 1997 models, a fuel supply and return line can crack where the fitting meets the flexible hose, allowing fuel to leak and creating a fire risk. The 1997 model year additionally has magnesium wheels with bolt inserts that can crack and lose their grip on the wheel bolts, reducing clamping force and affecting handling, though the wheel is not expected to separate entirely. There is also a power steering concern on 1997 vehicles where fluid overheats and damages seals inside the steering box and pump, causing the steering to stiffen noticeably under load.
