FIAT 500L Recalls

The FIAT 500L has 8 recalls covering the 2014-2015 model years, with the most serious affecting 2014 models where the automatic transmission can fail to respond to gear selection or become stuck in Park, and where a powertrain control module software fault can limit the engine to idle speed even with the accelerator fully pressed, removing the driver's ability to accelerate normally. All four transmission and throttle-related recalls affect 2014 models only. Beyond the shift-response and Park-engagement issues, some 2014 vehicles with the 1.4L engine can experience a delayed throttle response that causes hesitation or a complete loss of forward motion. A separate communication failure between the gearshift module and transmission on 2014 automatics can delay or block shifting entirely, potentially allowing unintended vehicle movement. On the safety equipment side, the driver's knee airbag on 2014-2015 vehicles can deploy irregularly due to improper folding during assembly, raising the risk of driver injury in a crash where the airbag fires. The front passenger airbag on 2015 models has a similar issue: bags that were folded incorrectly during production may not inflate as intended, reducing crash protection for the front passenger.
