The Fiat 500X has 4 recalls covering 2014-2019 model years, with the most serious affecting 2016 models equipped with the 9-speed automatic transmission, where a wiring fault in the transmission sensor cluster can cause the vehicle to unexpectedly drop into neutral while driving, raising the risk of a crash. The 2019 model year has a separate concern with the occupant restraint controller, which can be programmed incorrectly and cause airbags and seatbelt pretensioners to fail to deploy properly in a crash. Both 2017 models have a tire pressure monitoring system that can fail to illuminate the low-pressure warning light when a tire is underinflated, leaving the driver unaware of a condition that can lead to tire failure and loss of vehicle stability.
