Summary
The GMC Envoy XL has 3 recalls covering the 2002-2003 model years, the most serious being a 2003 driver's airbag that can fail to deploy correctly in a crash and whose inflator can fracture, sending fragments into the cabin. On 2002 models, the rear side door latches can corrode from road salt exposure, preventing the door from latching or unlatching properly; if an unlatched door goes unnoticed, it can swing open while driving. This corrosion issue is specific to vehicles registered or operated in Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador. There is also a 2002 tail lamp and stop lamp concern where vibration and heat can loosen the bulb in its socket, causing it to flicker or go out entirely and leaving following drivers without a clear brake warning signal.
