GMC GENERAL Recalls

The GMC General has 1 recall affecting the 1985 model year, where the clamp bolt connecting the upper and lower steering shafts can loosen and allow the shafts to separate, leaving the driver with no steering control and no warning before it happens. When the shafts disconnect, steering input at the wheel no longer reaches the front axle, making the vehicle impossible to direct. Because there is no gradual symptom beforehand, the loss of control can occur without any prior looseness or unusual feel in the steering wheel.
