GMC TOPKICK C6 Recalls

The GMC Topkick C6 has 3 recalls spanning the 1985–2001 production run, with the most serious on 2001 models equipped with the 8.1L engine, where reversed fuel filter mounting bolts can pierce the left fuel tank in a frontal collision and allow fuel to leak and ignite. The 1998 model year has a separate brake system concern: on vehicles with air brakes and anti-lock braking, the electrical harness that powers the front brake modulator valves can chafe against nearby components, short to ground, and disable the anti-lock function. The foundation brakes continue to work, but the anti-lock protection is lost. On 1985 models, fuel return hoses that were improperly connected between the switching valve and the fuel tank sending units can overflow and leak fuel, creating a fire risk.
