2 recalls across 2 model years
The GMC Typhoon has 2 recalls covering the 1992 and 1993 model years, with the most serious being a transmission shift cable defect on 1993 models where the gear selector can show one position while the transmission is actually in another, leaving the vehicle in gear or free to roll unexpectedly. On 1992 models, a rear height sensor link can disconnect and allow the attached arm to wedge between the rear axle and the right rear brake line, abrading the pipe until it leaks fluid and loses rear braking ability. Front brakes remain functional, but stopping distances increase significantly.
