The GMC W3500 has 3 recalls covering the 2006–2008 model years, the most serious being fuel tank corrosion on 2006–2008 vehicles where the tank can develop leaks that, near an ignition source, can start a fire. The fuel tank corrosion issue spans the full production run of this model and affects both the 2006–2008 range broadly and 2008 models specifically, with leaking fuel raising fire risk whether the vehicle is running or parked near heat sources. On 2006 models, there is also a loose bolt connecting the engine oil pipe to the vacuum pump that can work free over time, allowing oil to seep or leak from the surrounding seals.
