4 recalls across 4 model years
The Harley-Davidson Electra Glide (FL) has 4 recalls spanning 1974 to 1994, with the most serious recent issue affecting 1994 models where the ignition switch can lose electrical power due to excessive current draw, causing the engine to cut out or behave erratically while riding.
The 1982 model year has a separate concern: the transmission mainshaft spacer can run without adequate lubrication, causing the transmission to lock up suddenly and without warning, which can throw the rider off balance and result in a crash. Going back to mid-1970s production, 1974 models have a rear brake defect where the brake pads drag against the disc, building heat that vaporizes the brake fluid and eliminates rear braking. On 1975 models, the front fender mounting bolts can work loose over time, eventually allowing the fender to contact the front tire and cause it to skid.
