4 recalls across 4 model years
The Harley-Davidson Electra Glide (FL) has 4 recalls spanning 1974 to 1994, with the most serious being a 1982 transmission mainshaft spacer that can run dry of lubrication and cause the transmission to lock up without warning while riding, leading to sudden loss of vehicle control.
The 1994 model year has an ignition switch that can pass excessive current and fail, causing the engine to cut out unexpectedly or refuse to start. Going back to 1975, front fender mounting bolts can loosen and fall out over time, allowing the fender to drop into contact with the tire and trigger a sudden skid. On 1974 models, rear brake pads can drag against the disc and generate enough heat to vaporize the brake fluid, leaving the rider with little or no rear braking.
