5 recalls across 11 model years
The Harley-Davidson FLHP (Police Road King) has 5 recalls spanning 2008 through 2022, with the most serious being a clutch defect on 2017-2018 models where the clutch can fail to disengage, making it impossible to separate the engine from the drivetrain and raising the risk of losing control.
The 2017 model year also has an oil cooler line that can detach due to an incorrectly installed clamp, spilling engine oil suddenly onto the rear tire and causing a loss of traction. On 2020-2022 Touring models, a software error can cause the brake lights to illuminate without the rider actually braking, which can confuse following drivers and lead to a crash.
Going back further, 2014-2015 models have a saddlebag attachment that can fail to hold securely, allowing the bag to separate from the motorcycle at speed and become a road hazard. On 2008-2011 models equipped with anti-lock brakes, deposits can build up inside the ABS hydraulic control unit and cause a valve to stick, reducing braking effectiveness.
