9 recalls across 12 model years
The Harley-Davidson FLTRX has 9 recalls spanning 2010 through 2026, with the most serious being a voltage regulator wire on 2024 models that can chafe against the crankcase, short out, and cut both electrical power and drive power without warning while the motorcycle is moving.
The 2024-2026 model years also have a crankcase breather port that can become blocked, allowing pressure to build inside the engine. Removing the oil dipstick while that pressure is present can send hot oil spraying out of the fill spout.
Clutch disengagement failures appear across several model years. On 2017-2018 models, the clutch can fail to fully release, leaving the motorcycle unable to be separated from engine power and raising the risk of an uncontrolled lurch. The same clutch disengagement problem affects 2016 models and, separately, 2015 models, where an engine-in-gear motorcycle can move unexpectedly if the clutch sticks. On 2017 models, an incorrectly installed clamp on the engine oil cooler line can let the line detach, spilling oil suddenly onto the rear tire and causing a loss of traction.
Going back to 2020-2022 models, a software error can cause the brake lights to illuminate when the rider has not touched the brake, which can confuse following traffic. On 2014-2015 models, saddlebag mounting hardware can fail to hold the bag securely, allowing it to separate from the motorcycle and become a road hazard. The 2010-2011 models equipped with anti-lock brakes have an ABS hydraulic control unit where internal deposits can cause a valve to stick, reducing braking effectiveness.
