2 recalls across 2 model years
The Harley-Davidson Sportster 883 has 2 recalls covering the 1987 and 2003 model years, with the more serious issue affecting 1987 models where a fragment of a transmission gear tooth can become lodged between gears, locking up the drivetrain and rear wheel and causing sudden loss of control.
On 2003 models, the tail light bulb can fall out of its socket, disabling both the tail light and brake light and leaving the motorcycle invisible to following traffic at night or during braking.
