4 recalls across 3 model years
The Honda Clarity Fuel Cell has 4 recalls covering 2017–2019 model years, with the most serious being a fuel cell control unit software issue on 2017–2018 vehicles where the system misreads a voltage drop and cuts power partially or completely while driving.
The 2017–2018 power loss issue has a layered history: an earlier software fix did not fully resolve the problem, and vehicles that received that prior repair may still be vulnerable to the same sudden loss of drive power. Separately within the same years, internal corrosion can cause the water pump to fail and stall the vehicle. On 2019 models, the rear seat belt locking mechanism can fail to engage properly, leaving rear occupants with inadequate restraint in a crash.
