The 2002 model year has two separate structural concerns. The rear wheel spokes can develop stress cracks where they meet the hub, particularly after sustained riding on bumpy roads, and will eventually fail and cause the wheel to collapse without warning. There is also a handlebar issue on 2002 models where excess clearance in the lower clamp assembly lets the handlebar loosen or detach over time, removing steering control entirely.
