Indian Roadmaster Recalls

The Indian Roadmaster has 9 recalls spanning 2014 through 2024, with the most serious recent issue affecting 2023-2024 models where an improperly routed crankshaft position sensor can cause the engine to stall without warning while riding.

On 2024 models, the rear suspension pushrod can buckle under load, potentially pinching the main wiring harness, damaging the coolant reservoir, or contacting the rear tire. The 2019 model year has a circuit breaker that can trip unexpectedly, cutting engine power and stalling the motorcycle in traffic.

The 2018 model has an electrical condition that can allow the motorcycle to start on its own; if parked in an enclosed space, this raises the risk of carbon monoxide exposure. Going back to 2015-2017 Roadmaster models specifically, water can enter the trunk wiring harness and keep the brake light on continuously, which can confuse following drivers about whether the motorcycle is actually slowing down.

Earlier production from 2014-2019 has a gear position switch whose contacts can oxidize, causing the display to show neutral when the bike is actually in gear. Starting the motorcycle in that state can cause it to lurch forward unexpectedly. The 2015-2016 model years have a rear brake master cylinder that can lose partial or full braking power, extending stopping distances. On 2014-2017 models, the fuel rail can contact nearby components and develop a fuel leak, raising the risk of fire. The 2014-2016 model years also have an exhaust-related issue where engine misfires can push unburned fuel through the exhaust system, raising exhaust temperatures to the point where a fire becomes possible.
