The INFINITI I35 has 5 recalls covering the 2001-2004 model years, the most serious being a passenger-side airbag inflator that can rupture in a crash and send metal fragments into the cabin, raising the risk of serious injury or death across all model years.

Recalls 1 through 4 all address the same underlying passenger-side frontal airbag inflator defect, though the affected year ranges and geographic scope vary slightly across filings. The 2001-2004 model years are collectively covered, with 2002-2003 vehicles subject to the broadest set of filings and 2003-2004 models specifically flagged in campaigns targeting vehicles registered in high-humidity regions such as Florida, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico, where moisture exposure accelerates inflator degradation. In all cases, the inflator can rupture with enough force to scatter metal fragments toward the front passenger.

The remaining recall affects only the 2001 model year and involves the electronic throttle control system. If a driver applies excessive force to the accelerator pedal while simultaneously pushing it sideways, the pedal can travel beyond its intended range of motion, potentially causing unintended engine response.
