The Jaguar XK8 has 3 recalls covering the 1997-1998 model years, with the most serious affecting 1997 models where the rear differential output shaft retaining rings can shift out of position, allowing the shaft to detach and the rear suspension to collapse on one side, causing loss of control. On 1998 models, a throttle cable adjuster bracket nut can work loose from its mounting on the engine, leaving the throttle unable to open fully even when the accelerator pedal is pressed to the floor. Also on 1997 models, the headlamp beam adjustment mechanism lacks adequate operating instructions on the mechanism itself or in the owner's manual, a compliance issue under Canadian lighting regulations.
