The Jeep CJ5 has 1 recall affecting the 1978 model year, where a steering shaft coupling with oversized serrations can fail to tighten properly against the steering gear, slip under use, and cause excessive looseness in the steering wheel or a complete loss of steering control. This applies only to 1978 models equipped with manual steering. When the coupling slips, the driver's input at the wheel may not transfer fully to the steering gear, making the vehicle difficult or impossible to steer accurately.
