Summary
The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R has 8 recalls spanning 2004 through 2019, with the most serious recent issue affecting 2019 models where backfiring during quick-shift use can damage air suction valves and allow hot exhaust gas to melt surrounding components, creating a fire risk.
The 2016 model year has two separate steering and drivetrain concerns. The steering damper bracket mounting bolts can break and allow the bracket to detach, interfering with steering input. Separately, a transmission gear can fracture depending on how shifts are made, which can cut drive power or lock the rear wheel and cause loss of control. The 2011 model has a wiring harness that can chafe against a bolt and rivet in the tail section, eventually shorting and stalling the engine without warning. Across the 2008-2011 model years, the voltage regulator can fail to adequately charge the battery, causing unexpected stalls while riding. On 2008 models specifically, the voltage regulator can overheat and deliver uncontrolled current output, also resulting in stalling or a no-start condition. Going further back, the 2006 model has a steering damper mounting bolt that can back out completely, allowing the damper to bind the steering assembly and cause loss of control. The 2004 model has a casting flaw in the front wheel that can lead to wheel failure while riding.
