On 1997 models, a transmission gear can weaken and break an adjacent gear it meshes with, locking up the transmission and potentially throwing the rider off course. On 1996 models, the bottom of the seat can press against the battery cable terminals, snapping a terminal off and triggering an electrical failure that shuts the engine down mid-ride. On 2002 models, the main wiring harness behind the fuel tank can chafe against a clamp on the fuel pump leads, which can knock out the turn signals, instrument lights, or indicator lights.
