The Kia Magentis has 4 recalls covering the 2001-2006 production run, with the most serious being a 2006 model year shifter cable that can detach from the shifter assembly, leaving the transmission stuck in its last used gear while the shift lever falsely indicates the vehicle is in Park.
The 2006 model year also has a clockspring assembly behind the steering wheel that can fail, disabling the driver's frontal airbag and triggering a warning light on the instrument panel. On 2002 models, the fuel tank cut valve can fail to close properly, allowing fuel to spill if the vehicle rolls over and potentially igniting a fire in the presence of any ignition source. Going back to the 2001 model year, vehicles operated in the salt-belt provinces of Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador are subject to road salt collecting inside the rear section of the subframe side members, corroding the steel from within and thinning or perforating the structural metal.
